Our journey begins right at the front lobby of your hotel anywhere in Cancun or the Riviera Maya. We then continue our expedition to Dzibanche and Kohunlich; both considered candidates for the city of Bountiful. Enjoy the fantastic commentary from your guide as we stroll through the most charming and colorful towns and villages.
A quiet town on the way awaits for a quick breakfast stop. Choose from a variety of local specialties such as grilled chicken or turkey salbutes and panuchos, or try the local style of empanadas: fried corn doe stuffed with delicious Oaxaca cheese, beef or chicken. Don’t forget to add a fresh fruit drink to complement your meal.
After a scenic drive south, we finally arrive at our first destination, Kohunlich. Keep your eyes open for spider monkeys, howler monkeys, tapirs, and even coati’s throughout the entire trip. Our next stop is Dzibanche, here you will see the type of earthworks the Mayan used to defend their city capitals. After a day of exploring ruins, we check-in at our jungle lodge and enjoy their beautiful gardens and facilities.

Today we wake up to the beautiful sounds of the jungle. Listen to the chirps of birds and if you are lucky, you will probably see a spider monkey or two playing on the trees. After enjoying a delicious buffet breakfast, we prepare to visit the 2 most significant sites of the Rio Bec Maya region. We enjoy the entire day exploring and learning about this fascinating culture and admiring the impressive moats they dug out to protect their city centers.
Becan a pre-classic era Mayan site (550 BC) that is known for its tremendous earthworks and giant moat built intentionally to surround the city center, where the government and priesthood had their main buildings and temples. Becan meaning “ravine” or “canyon” was occupied until the 800’s AD and later was abandoned.
Calakmul, part of the Mirador Basin, also dates back to preclassic time and was once home to 50,000 people and had governance, at times, over places as far away as 150 kilometers. Calakmul was considered a great threat to Tikal and many other significant Mayan cities.
We return back to our lodge by 5 pm.

Our last day, before heading back to paradise. But before, we stop to check out Chicanná ruins, a rather small Mayan site, but with lots of detail and incredible facades, a faithful witness to the Rio Bec architectural style. We’ll see the frieze with the face of the Earth Monster decorating the entrance to the palace.
Last but not least, your visit to the south would not be complete without visiting the pristine waters of the 7 color lagoon of Bacalar. Here we will enjoy a pleasant meal and a fantastic view of the lagoon, and after, we will have time to jump in for a swim or rent a paddle board and explore the lagoon.
We return back to your hotel anywhere in the Riviera Maya around 7 pm, right on time for you to continue relaxing.
*Paddleboards and many other optional activities are available at Bacalar for an extra fee.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch.
