This day will be a great introductory day to the Mayan world. Tulum, a beautiful city next to the coast with plenty of symbolism and correlation with the Book of Mormon and Coba, a city still under excavations, with routes in the jungle in which we will bicycle through and climb the tallest Mayan temple in the peninsula, swim in a natural underground river and finish the day at Valladolid, an original Spanish city.

We will visit two important Archaeological sites: “Chichen Itza” one of the seven wonders of the world and “Ek Balam” an ancient religious ceremonial center used by the Mayans centuries ago for educating and preparing future leadership. Next, we are off to Merida city, known as the great White city to enjoy a city tour and see the LDS Temple of Merida, the Downtown square, and the most famous monuments in town.

Today we depart the city of Merida to head down south to one of the most impressive and largest underground cavern systems in the state – Lol-tun, considered a holy place where Mayan priest communicated with the underworld and performed sacred ceremonies. Next, we are off to visit Uxmal, home of the wizard-king who was once a vital Allie to Chichen Itza. Explore through ancient tunnels, arches, courtyards, and climb the oldest temple in the site. After lunch, we continue our journey to Campeche, a colonial city with the largest fort in the entire Yucatan peninsula used to protect the Gulf of Mexico from the invasion of pirates. Read more...

On this day, we soak in the historic Spanish architecture of Campeche, and visit the historical downtown center, the San Miguel Fort and enjoy a delicious meal near Campeche’s 16th-century cathedral, declared heritage of humanity by the UNESCO. Next, we are off to Edzna ruins not far outside of the city to visit a different set of ruins also built by the Mayan people at a different period of time. At this point, we begin our journey back to the coast to spend the night at a wonderful jungle lodge deep in the tropical rainforest near Xpujil. Read more...

After a pleasant night’s rest, we will depart to visit the site of Dzibanche, an archaeological site proposed by many to be the actual city of Bountiful. After we will head on over to Bacalar to enjoy a meal at the amazing 7 Color Lagoon and after lunch, we may swim in this beautiful natural wonder. After lunch, we will explore the old Fort of Bacalar to visit the museum to see the many artifacts and devices used by the Spanish to counterattack pirate invasions. Read more...
