Today we begin our trip exploring Tulum – the most visited Maya site near Cancun. We start early to get there before the rush. After, learning and exploring, we may enjoy some free time to take a swim in the beautiful beach right on the site. Because how many people can say they swam on a beach next to a Mayan temple? Next, we continue our drive southbound close to the Mexican Border with Belize. Enjoy the wonderful commentary from your guide as we drive south to the less-known parts of Mexico.

Today we visit two emblematic sites which are very significant to Maya Lowlands culture. We start at a Mayan city surrounded by a giant man-made moat named Becan. After, we head over to Calakmul, the main rival of Tikal and many other large Mayan capitals. We will spend most of our day here enjoying the scenery from the top of humongous temples and exploring into ancient buildings.
On this night we arrive in the city of Chetumal to spend the night and to get closer to the Belizean border.

We cross borders early in the morning, our professional guides will make sure you cross through without any hiccups. Next, we are off to Lamanai. Here we will enjoy a gentle cruise on the New River Lagoon and learn about the wildlife and nature as we stroll through the mangroves. Upon our arrival to Lamanai, we first enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal right on the site and next, we are off to explore the city.
We end our day at our jungle lodge near Belmopan to sleep and get ready for the next day.

It’s time to visit Xibalba, the Mayan underworld! One of the many natural wonders Belize posses are the incredible humongous cave systems and crystal clear rivers that flow inside them. Today our guide takes us to visit the Nohoch Che’en cavern system and to explore inside some unbelievable caves that the Mayas once used for placing offerings to the Xibalba gods. We begin at the top of the Caves Branch River where will jump in our inner tubes and enjoy a gentle ride down into the caves. Our guides provide us with helmets and headlamps to illuminate our path. As we journey into the caves, enjoy the fascinating commentary of your guides about how the cavern system was formed and also what they were used for by the ancient inhabitants of Belize. If you are not an expert maneuvering an inner tube, your guides will connect your tube to theirs and help steer you to success!
Hop on and off your tube in all the special spots and get ready to squeeze through rock formations to enter large chambers full ancient pottery and Mayan offerings! Next, get ready to jump off a 15 ft rock inside the caves and continue exploring.
The river will continue to take us back to the entrance of the park, where a delicious barbecue meal awaits.

Wake up to the beautiful view of Lake Peten Itza – and next, we are off to Tikal Mayan ruins to explore deep inside the Guatemalan rainforest the Maya temples that George Lucas used to film the planet Yavin 4 in the movie “Star Wars”. Today you will see the most impressive Maya buildings and a unique architectural style. After our tour of the ruins, we return to Lake Peten and enjoy a tour of the lake, directed back to Flores Island.

Today we begin our tour extra early to depart Guatemala and return to Mexico. Upon our successful return to Mexico, we disembark on a boat ride upstream to visit a hidden Mayan site only a few have ever seen, named Yaxchilan. Our next stop takes us to Bonampak to see another site far off the beaten path. Enjoy giant stone statues with engravings and also see intricate ancient intact murals inside the chambers of the temples.

Today we enjoy a slow start to recover from the travel. We head over to Palenque a world famous site situated only a few minutes away from our hotel. The mighty Maya temples of Palenque are deservedly one of the top destinations of Chiapas and one of the best examples of Maya architecture in all of Mexico. After enjoying this incredible site, we continue our journey to visit Misol-Ha falls and enjoy a refreshing plunge to cool off and relax.

As we come close to the end of our incredible expedition, we take this day to enjoy the beautiful amenities of our deluxe hotel in the tropical rainforest of Palenque. We plan for a late check-out and next, we travel to the city of Villahermosa in the state of Tabasco, to settle into our hotel near the Carlos Rovirosa Pérez International Airport (VSA).
